Gene's Fine Foods fundraiser benefits Valley Humane Society

Customers donate $1,700+ for animal-care nonprofit during weeklong fundraiser in April; store provides equal match

Shoppers at Gene's Fine Foods in Pleasanton donated more than $1,700 to benefit the Valley Humane Society from April 4-10 during the grocery store's two-year anniversary celebration.

Store management matched all customer donations, resulting in the locally based animal-care nonprofit receiving $3,420 from the weeklong fundraiser.

This is the third year in a row that Gene's has held a matching fundraiser to support the Valley Humane Society, according to company supervisor Casey Rodacker.

The donated money will be placed in the organization's general fund and help with a variety of expenses, primarily medical treatment for animals, said Melanie Sadek, Valley Humane Society executive director.
