Victim testifies in San Ramon man's pimping trial

Underage girl tells court she and two others were forced to offer sex for money

A former runaway testified that she and two other runaways were pimped from a house in San Ramon in 2009, according to published reports.

The Sacramento woman testified she was a 17-year-old runaway from foster care when she and two other runaways, who were 16 and 13 at the time, were told they could make money by wearing provocative clothing and posing for photos or appearing on webcams.

She told the court that she only realized she'd fallen into prostitution when she was being driven to her first client.

The woman, now 20, "realized that we actually would be having sex with other people."

"I think it was pretty obvious I didn't want to be there," she said.

The woman was the first witness at the sex-trafficking trial of a 33-year-old San Ramon resident Duwan Fields and Claudiens Griffin, 21, of Sacramento. The two are accused of pimping the three girls, now known as Jane Doe numbers one, two and three.

Fields is charged with two counts of pimping a minor prostitute, and one count of unlawful sex with a 16-year-old. Griffin is charged with pimping a minor prostitute, pandering for prostitution, rape, and lewd acts on a 13-year-old.

Fields and Griffin pimped the girls to men in Contra Costa, San Francisco, San Mateo and Sacramento counties over eight days in April 2009. A Foster City officer who stopped Fields on a traffic infraction uncovered the scheme, according to Contra Costa Deputy District Attorney Chad Mahalich.

The two older girls were pimped out to men who answered erotic services ads on Craigslist and performed sex acts costing between $100 and $200. While the girls were told that they could become very wealthy, the they never received any money.

The trial, being held in Judge Theresa Canepa's Martinez courtroom, is expected to last several weeks.
