Local junior golfers chosen to play in Labor Day Pebble Beach champions tour

Home Care & Hospice First Tee Open to be televised nationally

Three junior golfers from The First Tee of Tri-Valley have been selected to play in the Home Care & Hospice First Tee Open at Pebble Beach, an official Champions Tour event that will be held September 3-5 during Labor Day weekend and televised nationally on the Golf Channel.

Natalie Bodnar, 16, of Pleasanton has been playing golf for 11 years and returns to this tournament for the second year. She attends Amador High School and carries a handicap of 3.1. She has been a member of The First Tee since 2005 and is a model participant as well as a mentor to younger members at his Chapter.

Kortnie Maxoutopoulis, 17, also of Pleasanton has been playing golf for 10 years and returns to this tournament for a second time. She played in the event in 2008. She attends Foothill High School and carries a handicap of 0.9. She has been a member of The First Tee since 2005 and is a member of the Junior Golf Association of Northern California.

Victoria Leon, 16, attends Deer Valley High School and has been playing golf for five years with a 4.1 handicap. She has been a member of The First Tee since 2005 and is very active at her Chapter. She is a member of her varsity golf team and dreams of becoming a neurosurgeon one day.

"The opportunity these young people will receive by participating in the tournament will be something they remember for life," said Joe Louis Barrow, Jr., CEO of The First Tee.

"The participants selected have proven themselves on the golf course and through demonstrating their understanding of The First Tee Nine Core Values and life skills they have learned at their Chapters. It is an honor for them to participate, and we thank Home Care & Hospice for their involvement in this year's event."

The Home Care & Hospice First Tee Open at Pebble Beach will air on Golf Channel Friday and Saturday, Sept. 3-4 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and 7:00-9:30 p.m.on Sunday, Sept. 5. All times are Eastern Daylight Time.
