Man rescued as fire destroys garage, contents in northwest Pleasanton

House spared because of quick fire department response, good construction

An 86-year-old man escaped harm after the garage of his Pleasanton home caught fire Wednesday afternoon.

The raging fire was reported by neighbors and destroyed the garage and its contents that was connected to a home at 7389 Tulipwood Circle, but was extinguished before it spread to the house, itself.

"This fire could have been very bad if it were not for the home and the garage's good construction," said Battalion Chief Barry Rose of the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department.

Rose told Pleasanton Weekly photographer Jay Flachsbarth that the sheet rock in the garage kept the fire from spreading to the home's attic and that because the door leading to the house was closed, the inside of the house also escaped damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

This is a good reminder of why it is important to KEEP YOUR GARAGE DOOR CLOSED - Most are required to be self closing or spring loaded, as a fire control.
But if this had been in Livermore, it would have probably had a fire sprinkler system, and most likely you would never read about it in the paper!

Houses built after Jan 1, 2011 in California will need residential fire sprinklers, too!
Look how many fire fighters it took without a fire sprinkler!

My son says he saw a female Pleasanton police officer go into the burning house, flames shooting out the roof, and bring out the man on her shoulder. He says she is a real hero!!!!!!

I don't recall seeing anything about this in the Times Sounds like the Police Officer be it male or female should get some recognition' Oh and there it goes again some negative comments about Firefighters Oh yeah sprinklers are the be all end all. How fast will you call 911 or will you stand back and watch the sprinklers do their thing??? Get Real
