A Pleasanton woman facing multiple charges following a multiple hit and run in April had a blood alcohol content of .28 — three-and-a-half times the legal limit for driving, court records show.
Fifty two-year-old Megan Martin of Pleasanton was charged felony DUI, two counts of hit and run and one count of evading a police officer in the incident that began with a 9-1-1 call around 9 a.m. Thursday, April 22.
A police report from that time said Martin was involved in a collision near the intersection of Valley Avenue and Danbury Park, left that scene and continued to travel eastbound on Valley Avenue, where she struck a fire hydrant near the intersection of Quarry Lane.
She continued on Valley Avenue to the intersection of Boulder, where she was involved in another accident, police said.
Court records show Martin — whose car had lost its left wheel by that time — was spotted at the intersection of Valley and Stanley Boulevard, where she accelerated to 53 miles an hour in a 40 mile-per-hour zone as she attempted to flee police.
Martin has been required to wear a SCRAM (Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitor) ankle bracelet.
Her attorney has asked that Judge Hugh Walker be removed from the case, claiming he’s prejudiced against her.
Martin’s next court appearance is set for July 15.
Very surprising! I had heard her tell friends that she was on medication – when it appears she was intoxicated at double the legal limit at 9am in the morning!
Does anyone know where she was all night? Surely she did not start drinking at the crack of dawn.
I saw her speeding through the light at Bernal and Stanley with the wheel off. It was very sad. I hope she gets some help and gets well again.
I saw her parked on top of a fire hydrant, back up, hit the median and speed away (towards Stanley) with police in hot pursuit. Doesn’t appear to be Martin’s first encounter with the law? Hopefully she does some serious jail time and is never allowed behind the wheel again. I’ve read all of her friend’s excuses for her driving excellence and found them laughable! She’s a drunk and worse yet; she drives when she’s drunk. Thankfully she didn’t kill someone (lots of bicyclists and pedestrian traffic on Valley Avenue every day, all day). Do not pass go, do not collect $200.00 and go directly to jail.
P.S. Is anyone is interested in a slightly used Audi Q5 headlight(from her car)? I’ll make you a good deal.
I am just glad that she didn’t hit anyone! 9am in the morning! She obviously is an alcoholic and should lose her license in addtion to doing jail time and wearing a SCRAM anklet. When it comes to this type of crime, driving while intoxicated/drunk, you have to assume that she’s done it before, maybe many times before. Her blood alchohol level was extremely high.
Just like schools have zero tolerance for drugs on campus, we should have zero tolerance for people who drive drunk. How many times should we allow someone to drive DUI before we permanently take away their drivers license? Or do we wait until they kill someone to get tough?Driving is a privilege not a right.
She should go to jail. DUI is a crime! She is very lucky she didn’t kill someone – or herself. Jail time might be just the thing. And if it’s meds she was on – clearly – she shouldn’t be driving. 9am…….go to jail and think about it! ZERO tollerance!

This is the reaction from people when someone drives intoxicated and puts us all at risk. Perhaps, the truth and shame will help her pull her life together. She may have children in the community AND so do we.
The truth and shame will do nothing to help her pull her life together. She needs a medical exam and also in-patient medical care to help her get through withdrawal.
She is at risk for a stroke or heart attack if she does not receive medical care through her detox. Jail time…YUP! In-patient treatment for her alcoholism…YUP! If she is a single mom, her kids may need Child Protective Services so that they they are not neglected while she is incarcerated, if that is what happens.
Fortunately, there will be consequence for this mom. sad…
Nobody should feel sorry for her. Even in her drunken state of mind, she should know not to get behind the wheel and put her life as well as everyone else’s in jeopardy! I get the point of needing treatment, but she should get that treatment while incarcerated. She does not deserve a “pity” card. Even alcoholics should be responsible for their actions. Luckily no one was injured and/or killed or she would be in more of a legal mess. I do not feel sorry for her one bit!

I agree with maja7. People should know. We are sooooooo nice to drunk drivers in our country. Check out the penalties in other countries for driving under the influence. M.A.D.D. has listings. Unfortunately my friend lost BOTH parents because of a repeat offender….many times over. And now with the texting and talking problems they seem to be worse. Look at the pictures of the lives that have been lost and families torn apart from these inconsiderate drivers. SPEAK UP WHEN YOU SEE OFFENDERS.

Everyone claims that they want jail time for scum suckers like this — but who wants to pay the high taxes required to build more jails? Just asking, cause I think jail time is more than deserved.
How about this as an alternative? Make her wear a shirt at all times while in public stating that “I better not be driving because I drive drunk”. Permanently revoke her driver’s license with a fee of thousands of dollars if she ever gets caught driving again. Publish her name and photo in every local paper with a summary of her crime. And publish her attorney’s info too, defending drunks should also be a crime.
There are many ways to publicly shame a person who cares so little about the lives of innocent people. Somehow jail time just does not seem to stop people like her from doing it again.
Just thought about this one . . . doesn’t some south Asian country cut off a hand of drunk drivers? Now that bears consideration.

Lots of nice people from good families with children in the community make mistakes. Driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs (Prescription or otherwise) is a conscious decision. This woman showed disregard for for EVERYONE in this community, including you, when she drove her vehicle while intoxicated. By the Grace of God she did not kill or injure anyone. She needs to be punished for her bad decision and careless behavior, and then she can get help.
Yes, she needs treatment – and I bet she will get quality care.
Yes, she will go through our legal system and receive the penalties.
But what I dont’ understand is this level of intoxication at 9am in the morning! Does a true alcoholic get this drunk first thing in the morning, just after they wake up and brush their teeth?
Shaming and making a public spectacle of an addict will NOT work. NEITHER WILL TORTURE.
Alcoholics drink to avoid withdrawal. By the time she drinks enough to be arrested for drunk driving, drinking is no longer a pleasurable activity. Her withdrawal we be physically and emotionally painful.
Medical supervision will likely be advised. If there are AA meetings in jail, she will be required to attend.
She will be put in jail and receive proper medical care.

She endangered OUR children.
And for her children’s sake, someone needs to let them know that their mother is WRONG.
Her children have suffered more than enough. They are NOT responsible for her drinking and driving any more so than your children are responsible for the oil spill in the gulf. Children of alcoholics suffer every day of their lives. They need help just like their mother does. It makes absolutely no sense to give her children what for…they do not need to feel any more shame and humiliation from the public.
People that drink and drive endanger everybody, not just “OUR” children. Even animals and plants suffer.
She will have her day in court and the court will determine how to proceed. That’s why we have laws and a court system, to help communities deal with threats to everybody’s safety.

Yes, it’s terrible what happened. Most of it is happening to this woman and her family.
I, for one, wish her and her family well.
As I understand all of the outrage, I don’t think any of you are putting this in an accurate perspective. Alcoholism is a disease. It is a constant battle to try and stop. Do any of you really think that Ms Martin would choose to have this disease? Heck no! Yes, something could of happened far worse than it did. Thank goodness for that. And don’t you think that she thinks about this every day and regrets this? Yes.
So she has and will continue to get help. We all should be happy about that.
And she will fulfill any punishment the courts give her.
So all you perfect people, who have never done anything wrong or have regretted, can move on. And I hope that Ms Martin can get well.
