Seahawks soar at Far Western Championships
Tri-Valley Aquatics swim personal bests

The Pleasanton Seahawks Swim Team swam to a first-place team finish at the Far Western Championships in San Jose on Aug. 1-5, competing against the Tri-Valley Aquatics and others from throughout the state, Nevada, Arizona and Canada.

Special highlights from the Pre-Junior group include new PRTs by Alex Ren and Nicole Stiles. In addition, Nicole swam in the 10 and under girls 200 free relay that set a new team record. From the Pre-Senior group, the 11-12 girls of Sofia Barrera, Alexandra Hernandez, Nja Zuniga and Miranda Heckman finished in the top 10 for their three respective relays. Heckman finished eighth in the 400 free and 1500 free and sixth in the 800 free.

For the 11-12 boys, the 200 and 400 medley relay of Jonah Cooper, Timothy Yao, Drew Kobayashi and Christopher Jhong finished second in both races. In the 200 and 400 free relay, Jonah Cooper, Drew Kobayashi, Christopher Jhong and Wolfgang Lachance also swam to second in both races.

Individually, Jonah Cooper was the second place high point winner for 11-12 boys by placing first in two of his races, second in two, third in three, and fifth in the 800 free. Christopher Jhong also helped contribute to the points by placing seventh in the 200 back and fifth in the 100 back.

For the Tri Valley Aquatics, Stephanie Doi and Thomas Gjerde led the team in best times, with three each. Stephanie Doi swam personal bests in the 100 and 200 free, and the 100 fly. Gjerde took down his own personal records in the 50 and 100 free, and 200 fly. Jordan Reznick took off six seconds from his 400 free, which he'd already dropped in a few weeks earlier at JOs. Nicole Doi had two best times, in the 100 and 200 free.

Meanwhile, Maria Carlson and Natalie Tang were representing TVA in Edmonton, Canada, as part of the Pacific Swimming North American Challenge Cup Team. Carlson had two best times throughout the meet (50 free, 200 breast), and took home bronze medals in both the 100 breast and 4x100 medley relay. Tang also had two best times, in the 100 and 200-meter backstrokes.
