New chief of staff at ValleyCare
Dr. Valerie Chirurgi is hospital's infection control specialist
The ValleyCare medical staff has elected Dr. Valerie Chirurgi as Chief of Staff.
At the same time, spine surgeon Dr. Kevin Booth was elected chief of staff-elect, and Dr. Leena Mahandru, a nephrology specialist, was elected treasurer. In addition, Dr. Gary Peer was elected as member-at-large to serve on the credentials committee. All of the elected physicians will serve a two-year term.
Chirurgi joined ValleyCare in 1992 specializing in infection control. She served as chief of staff in 2003-2004, and was vice chief in 2002. She has also served on the Infection Control, Pharmacy, Credentials and Critical Care Committees and was chair of the Performance Improvement Committee.
As chief of staff, Chirurgi said she will work with the medical staff, hospital staff and administrators to make sure that quality medical care remains a priority in the Tri-Valley.
