Government shutdown? Just as James Madison planned it

Original post made by jimf01, another community, on Oct 5, 2013

For 70% of our history the branches of government have been divided in terms of political power. When the Democrats last held the White House and a majority of the House, Senate, they passed one major piece of legislation titled the affordable care act, and it is around that legislation that the debate continues to rage.

In the frame today, the picture is that it's only the current group in DC that are failing to come to an agreement to avoid a government shutdown. The Democrats, led by President Obama and Harry Reid, constantly reiterate the position the Republicans have to go along with everything they want, which right now is to maintain the status quo and fund government fully with "a clean CR". The Republican majority in the House is refusing, while continuing to ask for something short of that whether to delay or defund Obamacare, or at least reopen portions of government piecemeal like funding for treatment of kids with cancer, or reopening our National Parks.

The brilliance of the Constitution is that only the people of the United States are fully empowered to break this deadlock, by voting the people they disagree with out of office. This is how the system set up by our founding fathers is supposed to work.

The brilliance of the constitution is that it guides our thinking!
