At last, Highway 84 expressway project begins Around Town, posted by Editor, Pleasanton Weekly Online, on Jul 27, 2012 at 8:20 am
Pleasanton Mayor Jennifer Hosterman joined with other city, county and regional representatives last Thursday for the symbolic first shovels-full-of-dirt ceremony marking the long-awaited start the State Route 84 expressway that will eventually link I-580 to I-680 along the Isabel Avenue and Vallecitos Road corridor.

We can appreciate the reduction in cut-through traffic thanks to SR-84 becoming an expressway, but yes, it will become full, and we must still grow this economy ASAP because we will still need a Fremont Flyover from I-580 West to I-680 South. That cloverleaf turn isn't going to get any better. Need to plan for a safer alternative there and a second alternative to the inevitably packed 84.

So, without the final stage to widen SR-84 from Sunol to the wonderful new expressway, what we really have is an Expressway for Ruby Hill residents to get to I-580. It's nice that the entire county of Alameda is paying for this project. It should have been funded by the Ruby Hill developers. Who would have thought that plunking all those houses on a busy, rural highway would lead to more traffic? This SR-84 expansion should have been included when the Ruby Hills community was being planned.

Like the way the article ends with the need for a new SR84/i680 southbound interchange. The original one was find until they put in the Express Lane. There was no back-ups after the car pool lane was built. But in construction of the Express Lane the engineers changed the entry point for the HOV/Express Lane. This changed the dynamics for merging from SR84 onto i680.
I consider this a total screw-up by Caltrans and MTC, but who do you hold accountable? I though the whole idea of the MTC was lessen traffic congestion, not make it worse.
So we were suppose to have a northbound carpool lane on i680 Sunol grade section in 2005. Isn't this more important than SB84 widening?

Probably the same GENIUSES who invented the stop and go signals at all the freeway entrances. Someone's in bed with someone who's benefitting from all of this madness.
They're ruining everything around here. Gee where can we fit another signal light!!!!!
They just want to regulate everything and keep us all in a packed little row. As long as
people keep voting for the same party that's been running this state, the same madness will continue. It's all Union backed. Gee where can we create pretend-needed projects so the Unions will keep voting party lines???? It's so obvious. Wake up and change your party! These people have no history here. They don't care.
