So sad Coffee Ali closing...

Original post made by Friend on Jul 11, 2013

This amazing coffee shop in Vintage Hills Shopping center was such a treat for us locals...Ali always ready to make whatever you wanted, a homey cozy feel of the store...she is closing and it is sad. Take this little gem over Tully's or the others any day....

Very sad to see this place close, it had so much more character than Tully's and Pete's. And she made good coffee, not burned stuff.

What some people don't seem to realize is that for small local businesses to succeed, people need to actually spend money there. Many of the times that I went in I felt crowded out by the groups of people using the shop for meetings, art gatherings, etc. When you take up the entire shop for hours at a time and purchase maybe one single cup of coffee, how do you think the owner can keep the doors open?

Hope Ali takes another run at the coffee shop business again some day. Best cup of joe in town. We will miss her.

The sign on the door said closed for redecorating - signed by Ali.

Ali did such a great job (and made really good coffee). It was a favorite stop for myself and so many. Her next (ad)venture is eagerly awaited.

To Coffee Drinker:

I was part of the Art group that met there regularly. Alison wanted groups to meet there and prompted the meetings herself.

Yes we took up room inside and many times outside, all purchasing coffee and sometimes snacks, as well as ALWAYS left tips. We paid for our stay and also promoted the coffee shop in a number of ways, bringing the press as well, in the hopes her coffee shop would take off and succeed.

Sometimes it's just not meant to be. Mark it up to experience for the Next Venture. We wish her the best of luck and continued enthusiasm where ever and what ever she may do.

If it is true (or is it closed for redecorating?) I hope it isn't because the landlord raised rents when New Leaf opened. Since I shop at New Leaf, I'd considered going to this cafe more... but mostly I do prefer the coffee at Peets

I am so disappointed. Coffee Ali had the best coffee and fabulous customer service. I looked forward to her smile and her great attitude. I wish Ali the best!!

I loved her coffe, thought it was the best, but location, location, location. Out of the way for a lot of people. Sorry to see it go.

You have to sell a lot of cups of coffee to pay the rent and utilities. Then New Leaf opens up in the same center and they have a small coffee shop inside that store. It is hard to get enough business to support two coffee shops in that center.

I loved it every time I went there, which wasn't that often because of the location. I wish we'd receive warnings about the POSSIBILITY of a non-corporate business closing....I would truly make the effort to support them. I'm sure the coffee shop in New Leaf was a factor.

And hopefully, she's just redecorating ! ! !

Independent coffee shops are (for the most part) better at customer service, product preparation, and giving back to the community.

Unfortunately they are in the same boat as mom&pop stores vs Walmart. No chance.

Really sad to see some of the ignorant posts on such a sad topic. To the person that commented saying that starbucks is better, did you even attempt to go into Coffee Ali? If you really knew coffee you would know that the crap that starbucks served is no where near what Ali had going in her shop. It really is a shame to see that new leaf, that was supposed to help the Coffee Shop, ending up helping it run out of business. Seems to me that the landload had his mind in the wrong place allowing them to have a coffee bar. Ali had such a great dream and was living her dream for a good two years. Really hope to see her try again sometime, maybe in a different part of the town? But most importantly, we really should try to support these small independently owned businesses.

I went there a lot and was always welcomed with a smile. I brought friends there too. It takes awhile to build a business, too bad so much of Ali's time was spent in a defunct shopping mall.
