Unions warning people about Six Flags safety

Locked-Out Mechanics Union Warns About Ride Safety At Vallejo's Six Flags Theme Park

This is so wrong, on so many levels. The mechanics' union that handles the rides at Six Flags, in a dispute with their management, issued a warning to the public that the rides may be "unsafe" as a result. Not only is this blatantly dishonest, but the union isn't smart enough to realize that this tactic will only hurt them and the park in the long run. Driving people away from the park through fear is going to increase business, and increase their bargaining position?

I'm truthfully embarrassed that I live in a state where people are so ignorant and short-sighted.

Just bring in the unskilled scabs and keep them. Public safety is way overrated. Let's let our superior ideology prevail.

I wouldn't put it past the locked out union to put pennies on the track or other things to make the rides break down. If owners and management can hold out, they'll be able to save money by paying the unskilled replacement workers lower wages and salaries. This will mean more profit for the owners which is the way it's supposed to be. There may be more breakdowns and perhaps even an accident or two, but that's why owners pay outrageous insurance premiums. Never the less, at the end of the day this probably won't put a very significant dent into the overall profitability of the company.

If you want good work and great safety you need union workers. Case in point, just look at the great work union workers did on the Bay Bridge as well as the BART pedestrian overcrossing in Pleasanton/Dublin a few years back!
