East Bay Parks to Allow Shuttles on Pleasanton Ridge

Original post made by Kari Hulac on Apr 18, 2013

Just wanted to share that starting May 4 the East Bay Regional Park District is going to test allowing shuttles to take people to the top of Pleasanton Ridge.

If you want more information, please join my Facebook page, Save Pleasanton Ridge, opposing this ridiculous idea, as the district may be violating its own Land Use Plan in allowing this; there were no notices in Pleasanton about public meetings regarding this decision; and the potential for environmental destruction is huge.

This is Anne Kassebaum, parks employee, trying to make a name for herself. She lives in Danville and has no cares about what this vehicle traffic will do to our ridge. If people need to be driven there in order to hike it then they should pick another outing. If you cannot drive a car you cannot be on the freeway. If you cannot swim you should not be in the ocean. If they are not able to hike to the ridge, perhaps they cannot hike down either. Should we then pay for the rescue efforts to get them down?
Please Anne, go back to your previous job and leave our pristine ridge alone. You weren't so hot the last time you worked for Pleasanton and this is even worse.

I am shocked to see this happening. This is a HORRIBLE idea on so many level - environmental & safety. The EBRPD has no money for other projects but it has money for this???? What got cut from the budget to make this happen?? I am concerned for the safety of people tryin to use the trail and turn a corner and run into a van shuttling people or what about spooking the horses that people ride on the trails?
Shame on EBRP for not notifying the very public that help to pay and maintain the parks.

Yo Hiker! If someone can't swim they can still enjoy the ocean via ship, boat, etc. Likewise, if they can't drive they can still utilize the freeways in all forms of public transportation. The ridge is there for EVERYONE to enjoy and for those unable to hike this provides a means. Sounds like a whole new meaning of NIMBYism to me.

I recall filling out a survey conducted by the EBRP district in the staging area of Golden Eagle a few years ago, don't recall seeing any questions related to a shuttle service. Absolutely ridiculous.

The first mountain biker coming down the trail at 20mph. with their earbuds blaring that plows head first into the shuttle will stop this silly nonsense in a very quick and expensive manner.

Dumb idea, somebody is going to get hurt and run for the first trial attorney they can find.

The majority of the park is closed to mountain bikers, under the guise of environmental protection yet EBRPD is running gasoline powered shuttles? The weight of the shuttles will also tear up the trails. More users, more crowded trails, more garbage.

If you oppose this then call EBRPD at 888.327.2757 andor email Ayn Wieskamp, our elected board member, at awieskamp@ebparks.org

What arrogance! My knees are shot having serve snots like you. I think that I deserve the opportunity to go up the ridge by paying for a service and enjoying the view from the top.

I am disgusted by "hiker, a resident of the Pleasanton Heights " Take your elitist attitude and shove it up where the sun doesn't shine.

And, thank you Anne Kassebaum !

I also wonder why this service is necessary. If someone cannot hike up to the ridge, what would make one believe that he/she could hike down? Pleasanton Ridge is a place that I escape to on my mountain bike to get away from riding in traffic. I also do not like the shuttles that run from the Sunol trail head which seem to occur on a monthly basis to the ranch. It's a fairly difficult climb on a mountain bike from the Sunol trail head. Having to dodge a shuttle van while doing that climb makes it even more difficult and deteriorates the experience of being out in nature.
