Did Caffino (http://www.yelp.com/biz/caffino-pleasanton) on Pimlico and Santa Rita close?
Around Town, posted by caffino gone?, a resident of the Another Pleasanton neighborhood neighborhood, on Jan 11, 2013 at 8:52 pm

I've driven by this several times recently and the drive-through coffee place seems to be closed in the parking lot near the Shell station and Trader Joes. Caffino.com seems to not work either. Did this chain completely go under recently? Or did it just reduce their hours?

The Hayward Caffino's has also been closed for about a month now. Hope someone takes over--the drive-thru is very convenient and their coffee drinks are really good!

Caffino's is indeed out of business, as reported by the Better Business Bureau:

"Out of Business

According to information in the BBB files, it appears that this company is no longer doing business in our area. The phone numbers the BBB had for this company are disconnected, and directory assistance does not have a listing for this company. The BBB's mail to this company has been returned as undeliverable. I like Caffino's business model, but there are two problems with it: 1. They aren't big enough to get the bulk discounts that Starbucks has on supplies. The profit margin on any type of food business is very slender, and controlling the cost of your supplies is crucial to maintaining a viable profit margin. 2. The owners were undercapitalized (not enough money to permit them to grow). Those two factors combined are the reason so many small business, especially restaurants, fail.

That's too bad. I know they employed a few of the young people in our town and gave employment opportunities to this segment of our population. I always like to support local companies that hire locally and wish the business wasn't forced to close.

I think wal mart is going to open something in that space

Actually, the Walmart market is going in farther south on Santa Rita, in the former Nob Hill Foods space.

I can imagine the difficulties with Caffino's drive-through there. Any parking lot with a Trader Joe's is pretty much nuts in the first place; Trader Joe's gives away free coffee to shoppers (in small cups); and there's a gas station there and two restaurants. Also, while it is next to a freeway interchange, it is not convenient to get off and on there and get coffee, especially westbound on 580.

the walmart comment was a joke. I thought it was pretty funny but obviously Downtowner has no sense of humor.

Glad to see Caffino is closed-that parking lot is too small and congested for a coffee fotomat building.
