Police Immigration and Customs Enforcement raid

Original post made by Anne, Pleasanton Meadows, on May 2, 2008

I was shopping at the Kohls Department store this morning around 10:30a.m. and witnessed a Police I.C.E. raid on El Balazo restaurant. I am glad to see that Pleasanton is NOT a "sanctuary city"! I welcome anyone to come here legally and work and have been frustrated with the liberal thinkers who are sympathetic to the immigrants who come here illegally. I think it has been an insult for a long time, to the people who have registered and respect our laws. I am tired of the excuse that "they do the work that Americans refuse to do". The media will show the same old footage of immigrants picking fruits and vegetables in the fields. It's outdated! There is no agriculture in the cities...San Jose, Oakland, San Francisco, etc. At the very least, immigrants are taking the jobs that our teenagers used to work in the fast food and hospitality industry. And may even be taking jobs that Americans might need to take as a "second job" to keep up with the ever rising cost of gasoline, food, etc. It is also a huge burden on our educational and health care systems. Keep up the good work I.C.E.!!

I agree I would gladly give up strawberries to close our boarders.

I read an article in an L.A. newspaper that interviewed illegal workers waiting for day labor, they said they collectively refuse to work for under $10hr and $12hr is the expected wage. So much for cheap labor that is bankruptcy our social services and educational systems.

Yesterday at a rally supporting illegal immigrants rights, protesters held signs demanding college financial aid for illegal immigrants. Another article said as the children of the illegal immigrants (anchor babies) turn voting age our politician are becoming even more solicitous to the illegal imminent population.

Can anyone understand the voice at the drive up anymore?

I echo my support for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Above is an example of the disemination of false information with a lot of pathos in order to get a spur out of its readers. Fast food and hospitality industry employers must file an I-9 form with the US Dept of Justice to prove that all of its employees are legally in the US. So, saying that immigrants are taking the jobs that our teenagers used to work is purely false. And anyway, those teenagers should be at home studying and getting smart instead of frying junk food. Americans taking second jobs is a problem with our system. Fixing it is going to take more than just accepting that we need to take second jobs. Also, what second jobs are the immigrants taking away from Americans? The insecure day-laborer jobs? The nanny jobs? The organic farming jobs in the Central Valley? Yes, something must be done about illegal immigrants. But using the similar scare tactics used by the Bush administration to get us in Iraq is not the way we should be handling it.

Sue--You are so right to bring up the fact that the children of the illegal immigrants will be voting in our country. They are the generation of "YES WE CAN!" Yes, they can change our laws! Yes, many feel they are entitled to everything and more! The middle class struggle to send their kids to college (and many can't) and the illegals want a free college education! This is a true story -- I knew a lady who was here illegally and her children (3) were born here. She received Medi-Cal, food stamps and federally-subsidized housing (Section 8) for the children (and ultimately, herself--because she was living with them). When the oldest was ready to start school, she and her sister were going to return to Mexico. She explained to me that they needed to go to the Mexican Consul in San Francisco to obtain a Mexican birth certificate. I asked, how can you get a Mexican birth certificate, if, they were born in the USA? She said I'll just tell them that I had the baby in a house in Mexico with no doctor. Then I asked WHY she would need to do that. She explained that--get this!--if you are an AMERICAN you would have to PAY for your child's education in Mexico! That really burned me up!! I couldn't believe it -- doesn't anybody check? We can do a credit check in a couple of seconds...you would think there would be way to check on fraud like this!

Shelley, I guess, where there's a will, there's a way! Otherwise, they wouldn't have been hiring illegals at El Balazo and conducting a raid this morning in good ole P-town!! Bet if they went to any number of other restaurants here in town, we may have to shut a few doors for the night! There'd be no one to cook our food and serve our tables, huh! Heavens, what would some of us do! Then again, maybe the nanny can cook?!

many have worked at the same companies as me, on different levels. in most cases as the IRS says there social name and birthday doesn't match, they simply go get another social, from someone ( friend, family) . in california it is very very common. would you be suprised to find out many of the local stores one in dublin with it's corporate office in livermore, another in pleasanton, with its corporate office in san jose hiring mainly illegals. (like they don't know). trust me they knew. most of your deliveries are done by illegals. the wharehouses where all you products are recieved repaired and shipped are done by illegals. after all how do you think they make all those profits all around the board, and still offering you such cheap rates.

taking some jobs away from our kids is no good, it is a problem. responsibility and a strong work ethic are difficult attributes to find from the younger generation today. those who simply stay home went to school and never worked are the ones that can't keep a job. after call you are competing with people that already know how to do the job.

becoming legal in america isn't that difficult. people always want shortcuts, and to break the rules. not pay the taxes, and recieve free gov't programs. i love only getting half my earnings each year. don't you?

The IRS told me I am not allowed to claim one of my children on my tax return because someone has stolen and is using his social security number. Unbelievably they are unable to resolve the issue so we must apply for a new SS# for my son. In the meantime I can not get the tax credit.

I am certain an immigrants here illegally is using my sons SS# on their I-9. That is how the illegals are able to work. It is a very common problem and just another way we are absorbing the burden of this problem.

They also use the stolen SS#'s to file tax returns to get the earned income tax credit and additional child tax credits that you can get as a refund even if you have not paid any tax.

Are you kidding me? I have an idea, lets not hire anyone with an accent at a drive-thru for fear of Sue not understanding them.

I don't agree with illegal immigration as well but am disgusted at Sue's comment!

Speaking of taking jobs away from American workers...I recently read an article in which a woman stated that her job was in jeopardy in the health care industry because she wasn't bilingual. She said that all the new job postings for her medical center stated applicants must be bilingual. Whatever happened to people learning English as their second language? Matthew was right on the money! Our delivery drivers, warehouse workers, shipping & receiving, repairmen, carpet-layers, tile-setters, carpenters, roofers, plumbers, fencers, sheet-rock installers -- many of these industries are fully staffed by illegals. It is simply ignorant, Shelley, to be fooled by the I-9 form. We need to get a lot tougher on the businesses that are hiring these illegals, or keeping those workers who are not checking out. I have heard that some of these businesses are rehiring the same people they already knew had a different S.S.#! It's ridiculous! Many of the industries I mentioned above were Union jobs, when I was a kid.

Many of the Irish who came here were sort of "indentured slaves", whose passage was paid by the rich and would be repaid to the Master by working for many years as housekeepers, nannies, stable hands, railway workers, etc. When they reached the New York harbor, they were processed, registered and "deloused" at Ellis island. Some didn't pass the physical inspection and were sent back.

We all "get it" that this country is a melting pot of many different nationalities. What we "don't get" is the attitude that when life is tough in their homeland that they have a "right" to come here illegally and break our laws. WE have the right to turn away those who choose to enter illegally.

Hoo-Rah for I.C.E.

Rice 'n beans anyone?

How do you feel knowing that President Bush, the US Congress and local officials have little if no interest in catching "illegals". The most accurate number that I've seen re: "illegals" = 40 million and counting.

Most US government agencies are so inefficient; can anyone reasonably expect that capturing all 40 million "illegals" is possible? Not unless is put in charge!

In the mean time, why not join me in a rousing song:

For all those not liking indocumented immigrants from south of the border
You probably should have thought about that before you voted for NAFTA
Subsidised corn from the US is sold down in Mexico
at a cheaper price than the Mexicans can afford to sell their own corn which hurts their economy big time.
Haviing U.S. factories in Mexico where the workers dont have unions and are gettiing paid
less than a living wage are only a few ways "the rooster had come home to roost."

If you couldnt pay to get a visa to go to the neighboring country to make a living to pay for medicine, food... I would be hard pressed to say I or you wouldnt try to get across a boarder by any means possible. Of course most immigrants would want to come legally if they could, but if you are not rich, you cant even get a visa to visit and even if you are rich by Mexican standards, there is not current path to establishing citizenship.
Let think deeper and more empathically on this issue

I can't believe this hate is coming out of the Bay Area. I can't believe these people's comments are real.

At least one person is on point by directing us to the source of global migration problems: Corporate Trade agreements like NAFTA that increase the concentration of wealth into the hands of the few in the USA. When people can't afford to meet their own needs in their home country, they go somewhere they can.

ICE is the Gestapo of a hate-filled regime that has successfully controlled & used media like Fox News to make people live in fear and look to govt guns for protection. Congratulations on being suckered into this hate-filled nightmare. I hope you wakeup soon.

One thing for sure we must know is that ICE cannot deport all the 14 million illegals living in the US for a long time. That's an unattainable goal, and at the same very costly to the federal government and cause a long-term impact on the US macro and micro economy. I read most of the comments here bases on hatred and prejudices, especially to a specific group. I will not appeal to the same cliche arguments we often hear such as they come for a better living, who will clean your houses or pick your plants in farms, things like that.

The problem with illegal immigration have been coming for many years. The government havent enforced the law since the last Immigration Reform back in the 80s and 90s which have attracted illegal foreign workers freely working here. Is it their fault to have worked out of necessity when the government let you do it for a long time? I believe it's wrong the prosecute these people who have lived, worked and contributed to this country-and yes there are illegal immigrants who have contributed to the IRS with an invalid SSN. My opinion is to start enforcing the for those willing to come illegally.

When many people demand deportations for those parents with US citizens, they don't keep in mind these children are also US citizens and have rights like yours. Of course, some of these parents probably take advantage of a failing system, which I truly against of, but should their children suffer the trauma of seeing their parents arrested like high convict criminals? What is your solution to this problem? Remember these kids are US citizens we want them or not.

All this immigration debate have raised discrimination and hate crimes against immigrants, more specifically against latinos, and americans who have become less human to a level of xenophobia and/or racist. I'm sure some will counter argue with the illegals who gangs, robs, rape and other felonies making a whole generalization of all immigrants.

My two cents of this discussion.

While I agree with Stacey on the point she is making regarding Pleasanton Teens working kitchen jobs or cleaning homes, I also believe "what" job ILLEGAL immigrants do is secondary to the fact they are here ILLEGALLY.

Until we fix that, without some bull-pucky amnesty bill, ICE will be busy and Pleasanton will not be immune from the potential for future raids.

I liken this situation to Death Row. Why would anyone worry about lethal injection when we can't push the button? Why would anyone worry about coming here illegally when we have so many bleeding hearts believing stories of fulfilling work Americans won't do and having little fear of deportation?

Bottom line, why don't we just call a spade a spade? Who does the work here really does not matter when most of our large corporations are outsourcing our jobs to India, China, and Mexico anyway???

This is just another way of the Bush admnistration to blame someone else for the colapse of the economy !!!! No it isnt illegal aliens contributing to the recession it is Bush!!!! I guess in times of war we always have to have a scapegoat. Does anyone remember the Japanese Americans that we sent to camps during world war II ???? Why dont we send all illegals to camps ,maybe they are terrorists???Maybe Maria the maid is a terrorist???? I just heard that they are relocating all of these El Balazo employees to Arizona ???? Sound familiar??? I dont understand how any American can enjoy sending a human being who probably has kids and a family here and deport them away from their family. Actually the only people that really own this land that we call California is the Mexicans and the Native American Indians. What happened to America the land of the free?????

The mexicans are one of the most hard working employees i have ever

the job never gets done.California would be lost without the mexican work force. We should make all the mexicans who wants to work in the US working permits.........Plus these are jobs that you would not take for $8 an hour.......i will support El Balazo and eat there tomorrow.....p.s they are all W-9 So they all pay taxes even though
they may use a fake SS#.......and i don't own El Balazo.....

"Liberals who think Prop 187 is a political albatross for Arnold are in deep denial and should think again. A landslide majority of Californians -- including more than 40 percent of Hispanics -- embraced 187 and turned it into law. They will do so (symbolically) again. Who better than a grateful American immigrant like Arnold Schwarzenegger to point out to obtuse liberals the difference between legal immigration and illegal entry – and the crippling consequences of not making the distinction?.. Californians have been forced to live with the destructive consequences of illegal immigration ever since. But that only makes Prop 187 an even more volatile memory now."

A lot of people see red when they see protesters waving the Mexican flag. As tactics go, that's a foolish one: demanding rights of one country while showing allegiance to another. It's bad manners --
what the American public saw were people demanding benefits and privileges based on breaking the law,"

projected an additional 8.7 million new illegal immigrants will be in the U.S. in 20 years

23 counties that stretch from California to Texas are collectively the poorest in the nation. According to the Coalition, more than 21 percent of residents receive some form of public assistance, and 19 of the counties have per capita incomes of less than $21,000 annually. The money used to pay for illegal immigration-related law enforcement costs is draining funds.

Critical to the success of the deterrence of further illegal immigration and reducing the current illegal alien population is single-minded support by our elected leaders for our immigration authorities in their law enforcement efforts."

They are all trouble makers if they are here illegally. They are costing us BIG!

"Illegal immigration is taking a greater and greater toll on this community... While lax federal and state enforcement allows the problem to develop, local government is also at fault when it rewards law-breakers with access to free taxpayer-funded services.
Giving away free services to people whose very presence is a felony is unfair to people who obey the law. More and more of their own money goes to support lawbreakers and subsidized increasing problems of overcrowding, litter and gang crime. It's an insult to native-born taxpayers and taxpayers who took the time and effort to come here legally. We must be responsible, both fiscally and legally."

Pete,

Illegals Create Large Net Costs...

The estimated fiscal cost of those illegal aliens to the federal, state and local governments was about $33 billion. This impact was partially offset by an estimated $12.6 billion in taxes paid to the federal, state and local governments, resulting in a net cost to the American taxpayer of about $20 billion every year.

President Obama will grant amnesty and multi millions of legals will then vote in a "latino/hispanic" mamority state legislature.

In 10 years, the name of the State of California will be CALIFAS!

Peter, illegals already have green cards! All you need is Photoshop or to truck to SF and buy one on Mission Street.

The US government couldn't even get water to American citizens who were stranded in New Orleans for 5 days. How in the world does the US think it's going to round up millions and millions and millions of illegals?

I haven't read anything on this blog that addresses the issue of how you, the Plutonians, are going to hold your elected officials accountable. Does the Mayor and her staff even care that there are so many illegals in Plutonia? Please don't crying to me about your immigration nightmares; I like immigrants.

Why would California be called Califa? I thought California was already the Mexican name for it, even before the Mexico-America War, when President Polk offered to buy California from Mexico for fear the British would purchase it.

Web Link

"California. It is used to designate the State of California in Aztlán. The word califas is meant to attract attention to its pre-hispanic origins.

Some consider the term califas as a militant term; others consider califas no different than saying the abbreviated cali in reference to California. Califa, in Spanish historical references, refers to a Muslim governor or the Muslim head of state."

Matthew are you OK? I'll let you off the hook this time. At a time like this, it must be hard to manage your emotions.

Try to imagine a peaceful scene, put yourself in that scene.

But wait, suddenly about 650,000 Haitians show up and you realize that you've having a nightmare! Tee hee hee, tee hee hee...

Spanish lesson: Culo = matthew!

Get a grip dude! Go to church, say a prayer, ask G-d for forgiveness for your mean spirited ways.

What I'm hearing is that "gringos" are now considered a "minority" groupin CA. Can you please esplain to me how come some minorities are not eligible for freebies? Puzzling?

But wait! The freebies have already been used up...tee hee hee, tee hee hee...no more freebies for matthew...whatever.....

Plutonians still refuse to esplain how they plan to make the US Congress and the President accountable for your nightmare.

Maybe 5.0 needs to be called to at least name the color of the threat...adios...

A community board where editors have to routinely pull people's offensive comments is a great place to get informed. Keep up the good work!

The way social services is getting around giving the freebies to caucasians when caucasians are becoming the minority is, minority is no longer the criteria for receiving social services. The term now used is underrepresented or undeserved. That ticks off the african american community because they are over-served.

California financial aid requires one year residency not citizenship.

The State aid is being used up so low interest loans are no longer easily available to middle income families.

in fact it is illegal and causes many legals to not get the medical and social benefits they are intitalled to . which means we should be probably be charging a tax to those who's family on both ends hasn't been here legally for at least 1 generation. to even to pool.

cholo it is theft. you were so hard on the fellow that died at the mall. and the girl in the car accident. so where is your holier than thou attitude now. huh when thing apply to you, you are alot more liberal huh. so you should quit your gripping on everything else until you figure the truth. that you are in a way a thief and you are defending thieves. i say criminal.you say expunge criminals from our society, which means you. bye cholo!!!teeheee- translation to english is hahahaha

I've heard that when your mother passes the toilet, it flushes....

I don't understand the reference to a "lake of fire"? Explain por favor!

Now matthew, you are a culo and I mean it!

In my opinion, the illegals know how to utilize hospital emergency for urgent care. You got it, lots of services utilized and not much
$$$ coming in to fill the the pot...at least not from the illegals. No fee for service is their motto! GET IT?

Everybody knows how fragmented you are Humpty Dumpty. go blow your nose.....tee hee hee, tee hee hee...carne asada forever...HOORAY!

lake of fire= hell , your new home. you discrase others who have passed and try to act like you don't belong, right beside the other demons who plague our society.

no fee for service = those who should be here. unfortunately the doctors creed doesn't allow them to not treat a patient.

think of it as a homeowners association= we all pay to use the utilities and services offered. but what happends if everyone jumps the fence and no-one pays.... the services shut down. kinda makes sense huh. who would have figured econ 101. you just can't overpopulate the market with thieves and expect anyone to make a profit or even cost. doubt it. we are in a recession here. cutting of the borders and illegals is needed. we can't flip the bill for others anymore. when people all over the nation are hungry and not getting the care and service entitled due to everyone draining the pot.

culo oh i mean cholo= so close together no wonder when your around all anyone can think is culo. but don't be mad you are what you are. you're the one who has to look in the mirror, tell yourself you are not a piece of mierda. and to judge everyone else for your shortcommings which i'm sure are many.

since you think you are so riteous, remember one more time what the bible says about thieves. enjoy the lake bud!

Get a grip mattheny!

By the way, you need spelling lessons...tee hee hee, tee hee hee...

mattheny, you come across as some kind of half baked potatoe!

I'm a stand up guy and so I'll take the HIGH ROAD and dismiss your coo-coo rant.

The next time you pass a restroom, please note that the toilet will flush...tee hee hee, tee hee hee...

Are you the beast? My G_d, you are! HELPY HELPY HELPY...

CARNE ASADA FOREVER!!! HOORAY!

VIVA AMERICA.....MY COUNTRY. I LOVE AMERICA!

HOW COME YOU'RE SO JEALOUS...RELATED TO ANNE?

jealous, not one bit. i have no problem with work or insurance. bottom line is i admire no thief. all i'm getting from you is a half beaned response so that's ok. so i'll just keep flipping the bill. until i'm ready to retire, then no-one to flip my bill. sounds right to have not just one person but a culture snake our reserves from us. awsome. thanks cholo.

how does a stand up guy persucate the dead! and the victims of murder. real stand up guy!

steak and potatoes make a strong american!

love for america, includes not abusing it. but i guess stealing and abusing our country is ok for imigrants, cause they don't love the country the love abusing it!

mattheny...the way the economy is going, don't count on being able to retire as planned!

As a Patriot, I say up with the flag! VIVA AMERICA!!!

If all you want is to get your sticky hands on retirement funds, you might not be able to count on any "reserves." President Bush might decide to dissolve SS buy the time you're ready to retire. I'm sure enjoying spending my piece of the pie!

Change is coming. Pick yourself up by your bootstraps and make an all out effort to adjust to changes that already seem to be frightening you. How does it hurt anybody to say Buenos Dias...Buenas Noches...Adios... CACA...Gracias? Whatever feeble argument you dish falls on deaf ears. Do like I do and take the high road and you will feel tons better about yourself and our country.

The do nothing US Congress and it's coo-coo elected officials are awaiting your call. But wait, is that too much for a responsible citizen like you to consider? Everybody knows that the US has done NADA to manage an escalating immigration problem. mattheny, why do I even bother to try to help you understand anything...you're to helpless to make any changes! Tee hee hee, tee hee hee...

Also, if you have any kids, please help them separate from your depressed attitude...it will eventually take the light out of their eyes...adios...

ps try cutting down on all the drinking you do...
