Why no movie theater in Pleasanton Books & Movies, posted by Bob, a resident of the Another Pleasanton neighborhood neighborhood, on Dec 9, 2009 at 4:27 pm
Why does Pleasanton not have a movie theater? It's amazing what Dublin has done yet we can't even support a couple screens? Or is this another city council driven adgenda to keep certain types of business out of Pleasanton?

I am sure it is a conspiracy by the City Council. Let's think of some other types of businesses that they are meeting behind closed doors to keep out. This will be fun!

A long long time ago there was one at the Santa Rita Safeway lot, 1 screen. Then the Galaxy was at Rose Pavillion. The megaplex type place at Hacienda Crossings seem to be most successful, with small theaters going out of business all the time. Need space for one of those.

Bob, Sounds like a great opportunity for someone who has passion for the movie showing business to build one. I'm sure with the right plan, even the City Council could agree with it. I suspect competition will be the bigger hurdle to overcome given the large complex nearby. No risk, no reward.

The people who own Hacienda Crossings approached Pleasanton first because they wanted it in our town. We told them we were not interested because we did not want all of the traffic. therefore, they took their traffic and tax revenue over to Dublin who accepted them with open arms............good move

I take my dollars to Livermore to see movies at their great, rarely crowded, and clean theaters then enjoy dinner at one of their nice restaurants. I would love to spend my entertainment dollars in Pleasanton, but other than eating, there is nothing else to do in downtwon P-town.
A small bit of irony is that the building where the Wine Steward is located used to be a single screen theater in downtown P-town. It must have been nice to see a movie, then walk down the street to one of our fine Main Street restaurants and catch dinner.

When the Wine Steward was a movie theater, the only downtown eateries were Gay 90's, Dean's, Bellina's, and the Pleasanton Hotel. Bars on the other hand? There were a dozen or more!

I used to love the Galaxy Theater! Movies were cheaper there than in Dublin. A Drive-In would be great. I have been to the one out in Concord (or Antioch? not sure where exactly) and it was tons of fun.
Why does everything have to have a hidden agenda, by the way? So negative on this site sometimes!
