Just back from a global warming leadership conference at Robert Redford's Sundance (Utah) Village, Mayor Jennifer Hosterman is all fired up over opportunities she sees for intensifying Pleasanton's commitment to green building, energy efficiency and water conservation. The conference was the third annual gathering of U.S. mayors who are active in the U.S. Conference of Mayors, which Hosterman attends. It was a bipartisan group of some 40 mayors representing a diverse range of communities, and took place as local, state and federal officials are becoming increasingly concerned about record-breaking heat and devastating floods in many parts of the country that are being blamed on climate change.

I think it is great to have the city work on ways to be green. It takes a continuous and conscious effort to reduce usage of resources in this day and age that allows us the luxury to not have to think about where our food, energy, or water comes from.

What a waste of time.

I mean you think the global warming issue is difficult to deal with - we can't even synchronize our traffic lights. As local government "leaders," let's deal with local issues.

If you want to deal with national issues, run for a national office (or at the very least state office).

I think Mayor Hosterman spends a lot of her time on local issues. If she wants to join a work group on global warming, it is her time to waste. The City did not pay for her attendance. Let's recall that Pleasanton's Mayor is a part-time gig. I am guessing that the idea of the conference is that global warming and climate change IS a local issue. Thank you Jennifer for caring about our community!
