What's up with Bert's (and Claude & Dominque's)?
Restaurants, posted by Michael, a resident of the Pleasanton Heights neighborhood, on Sep 5, 2007 at 3:46 pm

I saw a sign in the window of Bert's Hofbrau, which has only been open a few months, with a notice of liquor license transfer to new owners -- forget the name but it clearly indicated a Greek theme (Gyros Bistro or something). A Greek restaurant downtown would be wondferful, but I'd hate to lose Bert's. Anyone know what's up?

Also, there was a notice of liquor license transfer in the window of Claude & Dominique's Bistro a while back. Is it under new management?

A "hofbrau" without German beer on tap? Silly.

Claude and Dominique's was sold a few months ago. They are now touring the country in an RV (really). I used to go there but I am waiting to see if it is still as good with the new ownners. Has anyone been there who can comment? Thanks.

I went by Bert's today and the new owner's name is listed as "Mim Gyros", and the business name "Agora Bistro". Bert's was closed, but I think it usually is on Tuesday evenings. No other signs in the window.

Took the family to the Agora Bistro last night. I thought it a bit of a risk given that the restaurant is new and the site hasn't had much luck with previous restauranteurs.

Well...if you like Greek/mediterranean cuisine, this place is really very, very good. We tried the slovauka and calamari for starters. Both were well prepared and delicious (calamari was very tender). My wife and I both had the sea bass which was also excellent and the children liked the chicken kebobs. Baklava for dessert was ideal with Turkish coffee.

I am hoping that they won't ratchet down there food quality or service as the place grows in popularity. If they deliver like they did last nite, this will be one of our favorite restaurants.
