Why even bother negotiating with these unskilled blue collar workers? They are dime a dozen and are easily replaceable. Just send them all to the unemployment line and they will run back begging for their jobs.
It takes what it takes to resolve a dispute. "Blue collar workers" have rights.
Do you by any chance have class issues?

This is another example of Unions pushing salaries and benefits to the extreme in comparison to private sector jobs requiring similar skills. City, County, State and Federal Salaries and Benefits are an example of this. They are out of control. The unions have infiltrated Government because they were loosing the private sector. Unions look at Government as having unlimited resources through Taxations. Unions have become too powerful, disruptive and manipulating.
This the United States of America and citizens have rights.

Precisely, Cholo, I HAVE MY RIGHTS AS A CITIZEN TAXPAYER, to NOT be held HOSTAGE by anyone. ! ! I am a victim of PUBLIC UNIONS ! !
Hey freedom advocate, why don't you drive a car you loser? Public transportation is just a socialist ruse by the collectivist state to get us all onto bicycles.
If you don't wanna pay any taxes, refuse. You have right to refuse.
Lots of folks feel like a hostage and they don't like it. Who cares?
There's no need to get sassy. Americans work hard to make a living.
If you don't like working hard for a living, go back to where your ancestors came from. Nobody is gonna miss a person who refuses to go along with the American way and pay her fair share of taxes.
i rest my case...
California is one the 12 states that allows public employees to legally go on strike. Places like NYC and Chicago don't allow strikes and if a transit union strikes the consequences can be dire. A few years ago a judge in NYC fined the Union $1 million a day and docked employees 2 days pay for each day they were on strike. Imagine how long that strike lasted!!
I don't believe that most Americans understand why some workers find it necessary to call a strike.
Even a local country club went through a strike and reached a satisfactory resolution.
The law is the law. I would never encourage employees to engage in behavior that is illegal or harmful to any citizens well being.
The recent Supreme Court Ruling re: Prop 8 and DOMA brought controversial change. There are a few voters and Justices who are unhappy with the high court's decisions. Tough luck. The Justices have spoken and all citizens must respect the law. There is no need to insult and refers to members of the LGBT with derogatory names. If want to support anybody who hates the decisions, contact the organizing committees in others states that are fighting against the legalization of LGBT marriage. Send in a few thousand dollars. Help them fight the fight. That's what makes America GREAT! Nobody is silencing you. Send in your bucks and perhaps you can help defeat a political move that you detest. I'm not authorized to offer free legal advice. However, I would point out that there is a history in the USA to refuse to pay taxes.
If you go to jail, don't blame me.

Please. They hire non-skilled workers to operate these trains. I know a woman who went from a non-union bottom of the barrel grocery store clerk to driving one of these trains. She had no benefits six months ago and was paid $9 an hour and now she's on strike demanding all these luxuries that many in the private sector who put work into an education and worked their way up the corporate/private sector ladder don't get. Screw them. Let's give these jobs to vets and see how much better service gets. If you don't take the time to get an education, or work your way up, you don't deserve a tax payer funded pension, fat salary and full benefits package. If you want it, work for it. Extortion and praying for the misery of others will ultimately lead to your undoing.
PREACH PAMELA PREACH!
Please define "They hire non-skilled workers to operate these trains."
What "luxuries" are you referring to?
Prove that employees who operate trains aren't educated.
What exactly do you want to "screw"? With what? I'm NOT available.
Maybe "vets" don't want the jobs. There are tens of thousands of highly educated vets. How come you believe that educated vets be referred to jobs that don't require an education? The top officers are graduates of military academies and have advanced university degrees.
What specifically does it mean to "work your way up"? Don't assume that everyone that reads this blog understands your common expressions.
"...tax payer funded pension, fat salary and full benefits package" means something different to different people. For many people, there is no such thing as a "benefits package". Unless you haven't heard.
"Extortion" and "praying for the misery of others" is pathetic. A bedroom game you know about?
Is Pamela coming undone?
A win for the union means BART will be that much more attractive as an employer, thereby attracting more/better applicants. Over time, that means a higher standard of performance. Higher standard, higher pay: that is good for all of us. Not just in terms of BART service but also in terms of serving as a comparison for other jobs.
I support the union.
I do wish BART would wash the windows of their cars. I was hoping someone would do it during the strike. I was going to wash one window each time I got on (when the car remained in the station for a few minutes in Dublin). But I can see that that would not work well.
A win for Bart union thugs means all riders will pay more to take the train. Rabid environmentalists should be up in arms that th eunion is causing more pollution by forcing commuters back into their cars. But, they won't raise a fuss because they on the take and members of the dem party that's driving this state into bankruptcy.
Don't miss out on the discussion!
