Yellow Pages Opt Out

Original post made by Stan, Vintage Hills Elementary School, on Jun 3, 2013

Once again we've been littered with a Yellow Page book in the front yard.

Apparently you can opt out but have to fill it out every year -

Apparently Seattle and SF were working on a law to eliminate this practice but got over ruled according to an SFGate article quoted below. So the books keep on flying on to our lawns and to the recycle/dump. Has anyone found a creative solution to this?

*******************
A three-judge panel of the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals acknowledged that many view hefty phone books as historical relics in the age of Internet search engines, but said the Yellow Pages still deserve First Amendment protections.

"The First Amendment does not make protection contingent on the perceived value of certain speech," the court wrote.

Yellow page books are a scam. They don't work anymore. No one reads them. Everyone throws them away. The reason why they get delivered is that the publishers need to justify the cost of the ads to the poor fools who are buying them so they deliver the books and then call you to verify that they got delivered. When they called me I told them not to deliver and that I threw it out. I don't see how this can be seen as free speech, it's a fraudulent practice for the publishers to keep selling ads in them.

On the free speech issue, it's much the same as left-wing loons. They are free to pollute the world with their crazy, warped propaganda because of the 1st Amendment. And much like the Yellow Pages, we have to deal with the resulting pollution and damage. At least with the Yellow Books we have a way to recycle them. We are still trying to figure our how to recycle left-wing loons into something productive, or at least less unproductive and offensive.

While many consumers and businesses rely on the Yellow Pages, we understand not everyone uses the print book anymore. We encourage those consumers looking for local business information to use our publishers' internet and mobile products. They can also opt-out of the print book(s) through the site referenced above: www.YellowPagesOptOut.com. This is the official site sponsored by the industry and you need only opt-out once.

Most publishers do not honor opt-outs through 3rd party sites or have a way of knowing of opt-outs submitted individually to another publisher, so please use the official site. If you opted out on the official site and still received a directory, please contact us through the above site and we will investigate.

We support and work with local businesses and live in those same communities. So we do want to be good neighbors and do not want to deliver a book to someone who doesn't want one. Thanks.
