Real Estate Agent compared to Used car dealer

Don't need an Agent to sell a house - save $ thousands at:
Gwen posted a comment Comparing Real Estate Agents to Used Car Salesmen.
She said: "People pay more for a used car at a dealer, than a sell it yourself car,"
evidently as an argument to persuade home buyers to do the same.
Not sure whether being compared to a used car salesman is an insult to the car salesman, or not.
There is a world of difference, and quite different reasons why some may prefer a car dealer: Usually the Dealer inspects and repairs the car himself, and stands behind it.
Real Estate Agents do NOT do any of those.
Inspections are done by others, for a fixed price. Repairs, if needed, are not done or paid for by real estate agents, either. And if you want a home warrantee to cover the furnace, water heater, and other built in appliances, you can buy that from a third party usually for hundreds of dollars, not the tens of thousands of dollars that a real estate agent will take out of the deal.
Take a look: The contract a real estate agent tries to get you to sign is mostly full of verbiage that protects the real estate "industry."
Spend your money wisely. The seller gets to decide up front whether they want to pay an agent's fees.
Smart buyers definitely include By Owner houses in their search.
If the seller ends up splitting what would have gone to an agent, that will be a lot of money saved!
