Work begins on last link for Iron Horse Trail

Original post made on May 3, 2013

While this continuance of the Iron Horse Trail is being portrayed as a positive, nothing is mentioned about the negative impact this is going to have on the community is going through. The quiet community of Valencia will be exposed to an influx of public traffic. The Association owns the land the trail is going through. However, there has been no courtesy to the Association or the community in regards to the change that it going to occur. The playground will be removed, the tennis courts and basketball court will be removed and relocated to another park. This does not even touch on the increased maintenance and liability that will be added to the Association and the homeowners in this community. Shame on the City for allowing this to happen to these homeowners.

Excellent news. I'll enjoy using this new trail as part of my workouts.

Why can't you just go down Stoneridge from Santa Rita, hang a right at Willow and in a couple of blocks you are at the BART station. These streets are tree lined, with sidewalks and bicycle lanes. Why all the effort, money, and disruption to build something that already exists? Putting up a couple of signs is all that is needed.

"Last Link?" Really? The Iron Horse Trail just ends at Valley and Busch. East Pleasanton Specific Plan Group will be interested to know it won't be extended.

'Bike Lanes' on Stoneridge and Willow where cars travel 40-50 mph are not for kids under 15 or people over 60. Dedicated bike trails are needed throughout the community.

I wish Zone 7 would have cooperated and allowed some more of the arroyo paths to be paved, maybe that tennis court could have been saved.

@J.Flack: the Iron Horse Trail's only gap in Pleasanton will be at Valley and Stanley, and I bet that'll be fixed shortly. And the tennis courts are going to be re-constructed about 100 yards away from where they are now. As will the tot-lot and the basketball court. The Arroyo Mocho Trail will be paved soon from Valley Ave. east to the city limits, and it will include several types of pavement to see how they hold up. It would be great if you could watch for that and give the city some feedback as to how you like the different surfaces. And you might want to apply to be on the city's Bicycle, Pedestrian and Trails Committee. Sounds like you'd really enjoy it.

@concerned homeowner: the Valencia homeowners association was consulted with for several years before this project moved forward. And the right-of-way for the Iron Horse Trail is owned by East Bay Regional Park District, not the neighborhood.

Once the trail is completed, I hope you come to enjoy being able to bike or walk to BART, or Dublin, or Livermore. What a great thing!

Concerned homeowner.....Typical of todays world.Know your facts before you make public statements that have nothing to do with the reality of a situation.
