Was he the older gentleman that would hang out at the coffee shops? Use to hang out at Noah's Bagels, smoked (maybe not in these past present years.) Mustache I think.

Geez, was he the long gray hair man, was kinda a loner maybe? I always wondered about him. If it was him, does anyone know anything about him. Was he a veteran? Did he have family?

I have no idea who Gene is, I am sure he was a nice and pleasant man for the community to remember him. RIP Gene.

That's sad. He always asked how my son was whenever I saw him and always had a smile for me. Ill miss seeing him downtown!

Gene has been a friend of ours for many years. He enjoyed being around people so much he chose to live downtown rather than in a home. He has a sister that I know of who is currently battling cancer which is why no funeral services have been planned yet. He will be missed. RIP Gene.

Was this the guy with long hair that smoked outside of Tully's and Main Street Café all day/night?

When did he pass away? How? I hadn't seen him the past few weeks. My father was a friend and would smoke with him daily in front of Tullys before my Father moved away. RIP Gene!!

Sound like a well-liked chap.

For some reason, this post made me think of the dude that used to ride around Pleasanton on his bicyle clothed only in a pair of shorts and no shoes. I haven't seen him in 3-4 years, or so. Does anyone know what happened to him?

I am very sorry to hear this news. Gene greeted me by name every time I went to Tully's, and we would talk for a little while. He was very nice to me after my father died and we talked about life & death and family matters.

I knew he had some medical problems and was in the hospital last year but was not aware it was serious.

If anyone knows the circumstances of his passing or how to contact his family to express condolences, please post here.

When I read about Gene, it reminded me of the man who used to ride his bike around Pleasanton in barefoot and in shorts. Haven't seen him in years. Wonder what happened to him?

I take it Gene is the guy that had shoulder length gray hair and smoked? Drove a brown Suburban? wonderful man. It didn't hit me that was him until I noticed I haven't seen him for a few days.

I always tried to make it a point to smile and say hello to him when I was at Tully's.

I was told Gene went into the hospital and was diagnosed with pneumonia. He didn't want to be in the hospital, checked himself out and developed complications from which he died.

We will miss him and his friendly greetings.
