Cruz's Remarks about Communists in Colleges and Government Renders Democrats Apoplectic

Cruz, according to the New Yorker, said that there were a dozen Marxists on the law school faculty committed to overthrowing the U.S. government. "Anybody who assigns Marxist literature in their classes or who acquaints themselves with 'critical legal studies' is obviously a communist who wants to overthrow the U.S. government," he affirmed.
According to Cruz, there was but a single Republican on the Harvard faculty when he attended. Cruz was asked if he thinks law, science and humanities faculty should be hired equally between Republicans and Democrats: "Absolutely. Although admittedly there aren't many Republicans who slum out as teachers and professors, because there's not much money in it, and it's better to help yourself than help others." "Nevertheless," he continued, "we'd all profit from an equal political balance, and even more so with a majority of Republicans."
Cruz became passionate when asked about science vs. religion, or as he calls it, Science versus the Republican Party. "If colleges and government hired on the basis of political party affiliation instead of scholarly merit perhaps then we wouldn't be embroiled in this time-consuming so-called global warming debate. Republicans could just hold their conservative, Christian values above the constanting changing, unreliable sciences, and perhaps the whole debate would go away."
Cruz's public spokesperson went on to say: 'Senator Cruz's substantive point is absolutely correct: in the mid-1990s, and today still, the Harvard Law School faculty includes numerous self-described proponents of 'critical legal studies' ' a school of thought explicitly derived from Marxism ' and they have far outnumbered Republicans.' Asked if a scholar who is interested in 'critical legal studies' must be a Marxist, the spokesperson stated: "Absolutely. Any scholar who is interested in Black Studies must be an African American, and any scholar who is interested in some of our Founding Fathers must be a Whig." He continued: "It's just basic logic."
Some Democrats have suggested that Cruz's campaign against Chuck Hagel reminded them of former Sen. Joe McCarthy (R-Wis.) and his crusade against Communism in the 1950s. Cruz has responded: "I promised Texas voters I'd shake up Washington and if that means exposing anyone who reads 'critical legal studies' as the Marxist-Leninist, communist, athiest, nonRepublicans they are then so be it."
