Supporters of Pleasanton Councilman Jerry Pentin’s bid for re-election on Nov. 8 filled his Lone Oak Court home Monday to enjoy homemade desserts and to sign the required nominating papers.
The forms must bear at least 30 signatures of registered voters in Pleasanton and be filed with Pleasanton City Clerk Karen Diaz by Aug. 12.
So far, the two incumbents seeking re-election are Pentin and Councilwoman Karla Brown, with Planning Commission Chairman Her Ritter also seeking election to one of the two open council seats. Mayor Jerry Thorne also has announced that he will seek a third two-year term as mayor in the November election. As of today, he is unopposed.
Pentin and his wife Josine hosted the “signing” party, where campaign literature and yard signs bearing the “Pentin for Council” slogan were distributed.
Pentin, who was first elected to the council four years ago, talked about the challenges and tough decisions he faced during his first term and the opportunities he sees in the coming years.
“I believe I have served the city the best I can,” Pentin said. “I’ve done my homework, studied the issues, met with both sides of many items before the council and then voted for what is best for all residents in Pleasanton. And I’ll keep it up for the next four years.
A 25-year resident of Pleasanton, Pentin and his wife Josine have a daughter Joi, who is a graduate of Amador Valley High School and UC Berkeley and now works in Silicon Valley.
Pentin served in the Marines from 1975 to 1980. He owns and operates Spring Street Studios, a media production company in Pleasanton.

A big “thank you” to all the candidates for offering their time in what is often a thankless job. I think out city has done a very good job navigating its overall direction over the years. Everybody likes to have a gripe, but I can’t think of another city that I’d rather live in the East Bay.
