Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Ask anyone around the East Bay Athletic League what is the best prep football league in Northern California and to a person they will say the EBAL.

Last Friday, Amador made a statement as the Dons went out and dusted San Leandro 50-21 in the first round of the North Coast Section Div. 1 playoffs behind another big game from Ledra McCollough and Ronnie Jones.

Of the eight quarter-finalist in the D-I playoffs, five are from the EBAL. Amador, who was seeded seventh travels to Antioch (No. 2) on Friday for a 7 p.m. game.

Foothill, the EBAL champion and the No. 3 seed had a first-round bye, plays host to No. 6 Freedom on Saturday night at 7 p.m. A win by both schools makes for an all Pleasanton semifinal the following weekend.

De La Salle plays host to California and Monte Vista is home against Pittsburg in the other two games this weekend.

In the win over San Leandro, it was four touchdown runs from Jones and three from McCollough that did the damage. The two combined for almost 400 yards rushing in the game.

In Antioch, the Dons face a high-powered offensive unit that put together a 10-0 record. The teams have two common opponents this year in San Leandro and Freedom. Amador lost to Freedom 31-28, with Antioch winning the game 32-17. Antioch also beat San Leandro, 26-3.

Foothill will play Freedom for the second time this year. The two met the second week of the season with Foothill winning 28-14. Freedom advanced to the quarters by beating Dublin 37-12.

SPECIAL THANKS

We must give out a special thanks to the coaches/parents of the Fall sports teams that took time out to send in results each week.

A big shout out to the Amador cross country programs as well as the Foothill water polo and volleyball teams. The only way we get results is through the hard work of the parents and coaches.

Instead of sitting back and questioning why only certain teams get coverage in the Weekly Prep column, step up and make sure your team gets the coverage — win or lose — that they deserve! In the time it takes to write a letter complaining about coverage, you could have submitted a week of results and gotten the athletes names in the paper.

Thank you to the Winter teams that have already contacted me and I look forward to working with you. If you have not reached out, contact me at acesmag@aol.com/

  1. While its great to read about the players who scored all the points in our high school football games, we must also remember, and give credit to, the players on defense who in many cases, had as much to do with winning a game as the players on offense. Congrats to both Pleasanton football teams and good luck!
