New Varsity Basketball Coach At Amador??

Original post made by David Lu on Jul 9, 2014

The head coach at Amador Valley Varsity Basketball has taken on another coaching job in Reno. That is a great news for a great school like Amador Valley who deserved better. The politics to play were out of control and have been for years under Fields. No surprise here.

Good Luck to the Amador Dons and good luck to Foothill Falcons in the fall!

The rumors were true then! Fields was an unskilled coach and looked to build his for-profit AAU team's motto: if you don't join, you won't make the Amador team. He got too bold in the end that he couldn't cover his tracks. His assistant coaches Ruotolo and Weiman were unskilled as coaches as well and only in it to promote their sons on the teams who made the varsity team over more talented and skilled players.

Not sure if you all remember how all this started:

Hmmmm sounds an awful lot like what's going on with FHS baseball and the Prospects baseball club.

Great response Mr. Scavone. My son plays ball at Foothill for both the Baseball and Football teams. I can tell you from personal experience that yes forming a good relationship with anyone is healthy for common goals, but at the end of the day TALENT ALWAYS PREVAILS ! My son started on the benches and now he starts because he worked hard to prove himself. Although politics do exist, I will say the opportunity to prove yourself and your capabilities with out a doubt are absolutely available to you at FOOTHILL HIGH SCHOOL ! My hat is off to you both Coach Sweeney and Coach Scavone for letting EVERY boy have their chance to prove themselves.
And to the "parent" I highly recommend you take Coach Scavone up on his invitation, this is one STAND UP INDIVIDUAL.
Thanks again to all FOOTHILL COACHES for all your hard work and effort to keep our boys on the straight and narrow. I applaud all of you !

@Bricklayer-You are so defiant in your response. You must be either a coach or someone who has a kid who made the team without talent to back it up and got the free ride. To tell someone their "your kid just ain't that good"? Your English isn't that great either. Just because something has been going on for years does not make it right. Pick up a history book. Things change when people insist on doing what is right, especially for your kids that seems like a no-brainer.

I think the point being made here is that are the high school coaches who are running these very profitable teams during the summer putting pressure on the players to participate or not make the high school teams? The question would be have there been instances at Foothill or Amador, Dublin, Monte Vista, SRV, etc where a player did not make the high school team because they did not play for this coach during summer on these summer teams? That is what I gather from your comments, the link attached and is highly unethical.

The best players make the teams.
It's determining who gets those last three seats on the bus where a coach will favor a kid he knows...
