Income tax receipts for February exceed state's budget estimates by 46%

State Controller John Chiang released his monthly report Monday covering California's cash balance showing that revenues for the month of February totaled $5.6 billion, surpassing estimates in the 2014-15 governor's budget by $968.9 million, or 20.9%.

Chiang went on to say, "Now we could use this surplus to augment K-12 education, or lower existing costs for the middle-class native Californians like state park fees and state college tuition; or we could even use it to pay down our existing debt. Instead, our one-party Democrat legislature is working round the clock to figure out how to transfer this to illegal immigrants, government employee unions and non-working welfare recipients - and outright waste as much as they can so that we can continue to raise taxes and fees."
