The top Democrats in DC decry what happened in the Senate today

Original post made by jimf01, another community, on Nov 21, 2013

The President, the Vice-President, and the Democratic leader of the Senate have come out very strongly against what happened today in the Congress.

The Senate Democrats today eliminated filibusters for most presidential nominations, a move the Washington Post says will "assure an escalation of partisan warfare" in Washington DC.

President Barack Obama has said the so-called "Nuclear Option" was not what the Founders of this country had in mind, and that it will poison Washington
Web Link

Vice-President Biden called the same, an example of the arrogance of power
Web Link

Senate leader Harry Reid himself stated flat out that for the majority to use this nuclear option would be "breaking the rules (of the Senate) to change the rules, very un-American.
Web Link

Of course, the Democrats who changed this rule to increase their power exponentially and cut the Republicans out of the process of nominating and confirming Presidential nominations said all these things when they were in the minority in the US Senate, and they believed the majority Republicans were poised to do the very same.

Now they hold on to a majority, and have done the very thing they objected so strenuously to. Will the media call the Democrats out as hypocrites? Will the voters accept this hypocrisy?

All this because 2 out of more 200 court nominees were rejected for being too liberal and out of touch. And people wonder why the country is divided and the rule of law is now a minor inconvenience to be circumvented by the dems. It makes you wonder what these continual partisan assaults will lead to.

Hey Right. You're a liar.

Republicans have filibustered Obama 32 times in the past 5 years; that's more than all other filibusters combined since Eisenhower.

Eisenhower: 0
Kennedy: 0
Johnson: 0
Nixon: 0
Ford: 0
Carter: 0
Reagan: 2
Bush I: 2
Clinton: 9
Bush II: 7
Obama (first): 16
Obama (second): 16 (projected: 28

Keep your head in the sand if you wish, Right. But please stop using these boards to spread your lies. You're not funny, and you're not cute. When people lie, they wage an assault upon the world. That goes for jim01, bradford, and the other names you use to spread your lies and distortions.

Jimfool: you seem to have difficulty understanding how people are given cause to change their minds on various matters. Are you a functional idiot? See above.

Cmon, an intelligent response, as Sandy would quantify it: calling everyone names, and saying well, <insert opposition name> was worse!

Sandy - everyone can see partisanship is increasing, it's evident in your comment, where the knee jerk response is to denigrate the opponent. Remember Clinton's 2nd term campaign, "No attack ever fed a child" with that pouty lip?

It's kinda my entire point, though you clearly missed it. And I am the functional idiot? I am sad for you.

Should have done nuclear option long ago. What took so long. GOP has done nothing but filibuster last several years. Putting qualified appointees on DC court is about time. Lets have some more nukes !

So, Jimfool, you have no intelligent comment to offer. All you can do, poor thing, is play the victim card.

Care to respond on how the Repubs have acted in a bipartisan manner since Obama took office? Not even a lie or two? Didn't think so.

Nov. 21, 2013...that is the official date that the U.S. has changed from having a president...to having a true dictatorship.

We will all look back and remember to the days when there was freedom in America.

Sandy, you might want to read this article from Yahoo News...I'm sure you'll claim they are ultra-conservative and biased like "Faux News". Did you realize you were posting lies? You're hero is taking quite a beating lately from the mainstream media.

I hope you enjoy the nuclear option after the pendulum swings back to Republican control.

Unfortunately, That's typical/Jimfool/Bradford do not know how to read. The linked article says, 'okay, now, we'll not count total number of nominees but instead compare the number right-handed monkeys with a hat on their heads that were obstructed in Obama's and Bush's administrations, respectively. And when we isolate THIS variable, Obama doesn't seem to have been experiencing all that much obstruction.'

And then he raises the view that the US has entered into a dictatorship, because, you know, the Constitution expressly says that Senate majority vote must be at 60%, as specified in Amendment 48 of the 50 amendments represented by the 50 stars on our nation's flag. Oh, but then in the same breath he relishes the idea of Republicans someday having a majority in the Senate, at which point Repubs will show Dems how dictatorship REALLY works.

So, what does one say? Learn how to tell the truth? Learn how to read? Learn how to use logic without flagrant contradiction? Go back to school? Of course the answer is All of the Above; but we know it's too late, as this perpetual whiner fell off the cliff much too long ago for any of these to have an effect.

What the linked article from That does say is the GOP and Dems have participated in the very same escalation of partisanship, something even Sandy can acknowledge.

There is a reason to isolate judicial nominations, they are a unique category. Judges are appointed for life. It's as simple as that.

The original point remains, the very top echelon of Democrats in DC called this move un-American, arrogant, poison, etc and so on.
And now they have taken that step. The Democrats have played this partisan game and have now escalated it. They will certainly remember the escalation they undertook when they are again the minority in the Senate

More Democrats are coming out against this move by the Senate leader Harry Reid

- Sen Joe Manchin - D (WV) voted in opposition, saying the "responsibility to preserve this institution's special purpose" is more important

Web Link

- Sen Mark Pryor - D (AR) also voted against Harry Reid, saying the change "could permanently damage the Senate."

Manchin and Pryor, now there's two of the real intellectual beacons up on the Hill. Both representing hillbilly states.

It's over Jimfool, and so you best find some other Mark Levin or KKK piece of literature that unwads your undies for you.

Now, if ya want somethin' to get worked up over, consider that those freedom-hating tyrants in the Senate have yet another trick up their sleeves: ending the filibuster on legislation. That will probably happen at the beginning of the next Congress, January, 2015.

So, get that old lying machine cranked up for your next stop.

Founders used filibusters. I have seen repeated filmclips on c-span and cnn of Senator Obama, and Sen Harry Reid, speaking how wrong it would be if the Senate ever stopped filibusters, a time-honored tradition in the Senate. Great orators throughout the last century filibustered. Senate majority is currently in the hands of Democrats. Out 50 states could change Dem Senators to a minority, and they would beg for a filibuster.
This is a serious partisan tactic, that SOMEDAY, for sure will BITE the Dems. After 200 years, it is wrong for the Dems to make such a drastic change. It is selfish for the current crew to only think of themselves, and not what future Dems will definitely want to use in the future, and they will be blocked by their own extreme, radical change to the country's governance. Shame on today's DEM Senators.

The money-grubbing parasite party, the Republicans, misused the filibuster, and misused it frequently. Oh, you say they only used it based upon principle -- not allowing a nominee to receive an up or down vote because, say, Republicans failed in their efforts to smear Obama over Benghazi? Okay, fine, your high-minded Republicans can go back to 60-vote majority threshold once they reclaim power, which, face it, is going to take a whole lot more voter restrictions if that is ever going to happen. (By the way, Founders, your history is all screwed up; no one is saying filibusters are now not permitted. Did you read this in Mark Levin's book on the 13 Founding Fathers and their 50 teapot bearing children?)

You can find a pretty decent overview of filibuster in Wikipedia, or you can read Tom Cushing's blog where he basically lifts what is in Wiki before he says its a good thing.

(Comments partially removed by Pleasanton Weekly Online staff) Don't feed the obnoxious, caustic troll, sandy. There's no hope for someone who has drunk so much Kool aid as to be totally devoid of reality. Of course, the typical leftist name calling is a clear indication that our local troll that invades this website is back in typical leftist form. Throughput his rant, no mention is made of the lack of qualifications of the candidates for the courts that were properly kept from assuming the bench. The regime in power wants these DC judges appointed to support the failed obamacare plan in spite of its obvious flaws, failure and unpopularity with a majority's of the legal citizens of this country.
