Event next weekend promises to be spirited

Wine, other libations featured at 'Barrels, Bottles & Brews'

Breweries and distilleries are joining 30 Livermore Valley wineries to present a barrel tasting weekend on March 25-26. Guests can taste a wide variety of samples, including wine in development served directly from the barrels, from noon to 4:30 p.m. both days.

"The breweries and distilleries are a welcome addition to Livermore Valley wine country," said Chris Chandler, executive director of the Livermore Valley Winegrowers Association. "They expand the quality options for our food and wine lovers and are helping to bring even more visitors to the Valley."

Many of the winemakers, brewers and distillers who crafted the beverages will be present to pour and discuss their work. Some of the barrel wines will be available for purchase at a discount, a practice known as buying "futures."

"The attention and care evident in our region's wines is also found in our craft beers and artisan spirits," Chandler said. "Livermore Valley's winemakers, brewers and distillers share a passion for quality."

"Barrels, Bottles & Brews" guests with wristbands and official glasses will receive tastings at each participating winery, brewery or distillery. Whether beer buffs, wine lovers or spirits fans, guests may gain a new appreciation for the beverage scene across party lines, organizers said.

Many locations will have live music, arts-and-crafts vendors, discounts on bottles and food available for purchase. For a list of participating locations, activities and discounts, visit www.LVwine.org.

Advance tickets are $45, available online and in some wine-tasting rooms. Tickets purchased at the event will be $55 per person. Each ticket includes a souvenir GoVino tasting glass featuring the Livermore Valley Wine Country logo, two days of tasting at participating locations, special activities, discounts and an event map.
