Wood burning banned again today by Bay Area air quality agency
Fourth consecutive Winter Spare the Air Day alert

Bookmark and Share
Air quality in the Bay Area is forecast to be unhealthy this weekend, prompting the fourth consecutive Winter Spare the Air Day alert for
Saturday, air district officials said.

The alert is also in effect today, according to the Bay Area Air Quality Management District.

During a Winter Spare the Air Day, it is illegal for Bay Area residents to burn wood or other solid fuels in fireplaces, wood stoves, fire pits or elsewhere, according to the air district.

Violators can receive a $500 fine, while first-time offenders can opt to take a wood smoke awareness class in lieu of the ticket.

The winter air quality enforcement period runs between Nov. 1 and Feb. 28.

More information is available at www.sparetheair.org or at the toll-free hotline at (877) 4-NO-BURN.

Did you see the yellow/brown haze creeping in from Fremont? I was driving by San Ramon heading south on I680 and could see it. It was that bad.

The haze over Fremont is from Solyndras former location. The equipment we paid for with our tax dollars that could not be sold at auction is being used to keep people warm by burning the unsold items. It's the ultimate in recycling.
