 | In the first of what may be a series of rain-related incidents, firefighters from the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department were called early this morning to help out when a home began to flood.
A call from a home in the 500 block of Serenity Drive came in around 5:45 this morning, according to Joe Testa, LPFD battalion chief.
"It was reported to be in the garage and moving into the house," Testa said.
Much of the department was busy with an accident on Interstate 580, so a truck company from Alameda County was called in to join an engine company from the LPFD.
Testa said firefighters discovered about an inch of water in the garage.
"The crews came and worked to evacuate the water and I called for sandbags," he said.
A total of 13 firefighters put down about 50 sandbags, preventing damages to the interior of the home.
"We were able to get the water out of the garage with minimal damage," Testa said.
A wind advisory was in effect until 11 a.m. and a flash flood watch is in effect through Monday morning in Bay Area.
Rain is likely to continue this evening and Saturday, and more homes could be in danger of flooding.
About 4,600 PG&E customers in the Bay Area -- including some 480 in the East Bay -- were still without power as of about 11 a.m. today because of storm-related outages, a utility spokesman said.
Other affected customers include 2,700 in the North Bay, 760 along the Peninsula, 400 in the South Bay and 230 in San Francisco, PG&E spokesman Joe Molica said.
An additional 2,000 customers are without power in the Santa Cruz Mountains as well as 1,930 others in Santa Cruz and Monterey counties, Molica said.
The storm caused outages to nearly 16,000 Bay Area PG&E customers at its peak overnight, according to PG&E.
The stormy weather is also affecting travel plans in and out of the Bay Area, according to airport officials.
At San Francisco International Airport, 60 flights -- 30 arrivals and 30 departures -- were canceled this morning, airport duty manager Joe Walsh said.
The cancellations started early this morning and will continue to affect flights until about noon, Walsh said. A delay program is in place at the airport until the end of the day.
So far in the East Bay, there was only one flight canceled this morning out of Oakland International Airport, an airport operations employee said.
