Pleasanton's busy Santa Rita Road is closed again todayw at the Union Pacific crossing so that the railroad can install new tracks and make other major improvements.
The crossing is scheduled to reopen at 5 p.m.
Union Pacific representatives said the rail crossing on Santa Rita is being removed and completely reconstructed. The ACE train schedule will not be affected by the construction.
Santa Rita Road traffic is being diverted to Valley Avenue, Stanley Boulevard and "old" Stanley Boulevard.
Detours are designed to minimize the impact of traffic on residential streets, and instead are diverted primarily through industrial and retail areas. During the road closure, southbound Santa Rita Road through traffic will be detoured via Valley Avenue to Stanley Boulevard, and back to Santa Rita Road/ Main Street.
Santa Rita Road is open north of the Union Pacific crossing for traffic to residential areas and Amador Valley High School.
