The Pleasanton Police Department in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) collected 787 pounds.pounds of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs during a "Take Back" program held April 27.
Police Sergeant Penelope Tamm said residents dropped off enough prescription medication drugs to fill 22 large boxes. These boxes were in addition to 10 boxes collected at the city's Operation Services Center E-Waste collection day held on April 13.
Collectively, these boxes weighed over 787 pounds, she said.
"This is a huge amount of prescription drugs that are no longer in residents' homes or accessible to others for illegal/dangerous use or experimentation, Tamm said.
In addition to police, representatives from Mothers with a Purpose were at the event passing out information and offering advice to residents.
